Claymation / Stop-Motion Animation

Claymation is an animation technique used with clay figures. The students first created a story board and then built their clay models.

After creating the clay figures, they started snapping photos! They took lots of shots and tried their best to make the figure movement smooth.

Claymation / stop-motion animation lesson teach patience, attention to detail, photography and communication skills. Creating a movie from a lot of hard work is rewarding as well!
Check out this final animation created by grade 5 and 6 studensts.

Grade 6 Update

Self-portrait of the students

Victorian Homes
The students learned different kinds of Victorian houses and designed their own house. I encouraged students to use rulers and think like a real architect. This architectural drawing lesson was a great way to teach how math and art collide.

Environment Day Art Activity

Friday Art Activity
The theme of April was "Environment and Social Responsibility".
BCC artists used recycled bottle caps to create collaborate pieces. They learned that they could create amazing artwork using recycled materials and were able to demonstrate the importance of recycling.

Here are photos of the art-making process.

Here are finished pieces of the day. They are displayed in the lobby and the library.

Art Show

Surreal Eyes
Each student created a drawing of an eye inspired by Surrealist painter, RenĂ© Magritte. The image expressed things that are meaningful to them based on the saying, "the eye is the window to the soul”. Students also created collages — one with eye images and another with images that represent themselves.

Creative Hairdo
This project gave students the opportunity to transform their appearance by creating a unique hair style, hat or mask using paper. They explored a range of collage techniques, such as, cutting, folding, ripping, crumpling and overlapping paper. Some students decided to make their hair pop off the page to achieve a three-dimensional effect.

Collaboration Mural
Students in grade 4 to 7 assembled the forest and under the ground scenes. Younger artists in kindergarten to grade 3 worked on coloring the accents for the environment - rows of flowers, insects and animals that inhabit the land. A special contribution came from grade 2B, grade 5 and grade 7 who helped to put the finishing touches to our school mural.

Friday Art Activity - March 24

For the theme of March "The Arts", all students worked on group projects on Friday March 24. One of the project was a group mural. They created background scene with black sharpies and used oil pastel to color in the space.

Another project was the collaboration collage. They continued to explore the theme of "Who am I" and created the collages — one with eye images and another with images that represent themselves.

Creative Hair Design Project

For this project, BCA Canada artists have created unique hair style to change their look using papers.
Students explored various techniques of cutting, folding, ripping, crumpled, and overlapping papers. They came up with some really interesting ideas. Some decided to make their hair pop out of the paper to create 3-dimentional effect.
Each grade has different color for their hair.
Kindergarteners-red, Grade 1-pink, Grade 2-orange, and Grade 3-yellow.
Upper grades will be using different colors for this project and I will update with their work next week.

Surrealistic Eye Project

BCA Canada artists have been creating surrealistic eye drawing using sharpies, colored pencils, and oil pastels last week. In the beginning, students looked at human eye pictures and discussed how eyes can express our feelings without verbal language. We shared the idea of eyes being a "window to the soul".

Students looked at many surrealistic eye drawings and paintings including Belgian Surrealist painter, René Magritte's "The False Mirror".

To begin this project, students were asked to answer following questions to brainstorm ideas for their surreal eyes.
- What is important to you?
- What is your favorite place?
- What makes you feel happy?

Here are some pictures of their brainstorming sketches, students working in process and their finished work:
