The second graders continued working on a Monster Unit. We looked at "Where the wild things are", a picture book by American writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak, and noticed the cross-hatching marks that created an interestng texture. They learned a cross-hatching technique and practiced it using black ink.
In the following class, students created a collage of an imaginary monster, using their cross-hatching ink painting. First, they worked on the big shapes of the monster's body with the ink painting, and then added details using bright color paper.
