Friday Art Activity - March 24

For the theme of March "The Arts", all students worked on group projects on Friday March 24. One of the project was a group mural. They created background scene with black sharpies and used oil pastel to color in the space.




Another project was the collaboration collage. They continued to explore the theme of "Who am I" and created the collages — one with eye images and another with images that represent themselves.

Kindergarten - Line Painting

For this project, Kindergarten artists painted different kinds of lines first with black. They created straight, zigzag, curvy, and swirl lines and then filled each section created by crossing the lines using white paint. They discovered they could create different shades of gray by mixing black and white paint. In this painting unit, artists are learning about the painting routines and procedures. We are learning about the proper care of brushes and painting tools, carrying wet paintings and cleaning up our space when we are finished.

Kindergarten - Color Study

Kindergarten artists experimented with color mixing. They looked at Wassily Kandinsky's Circle Painting and shared what their favorite colors are. For our first exploration of color mixing, students painted circles and noticed what happens when wet paint mixes. They enjoyed creating beautiful colors!

Creative Hair Design Project

For this project, BCA Canada artists have created unique hair style to change their look using papers.
Students explored various techniques of cutting, folding, ripping, crumpled, and overlapping papers. They came up with some really interesting ideas. Some decided to make their hair pop out of the paper to create 3-dimentional effect.
Each grade has different color for their hair.
Kindergarteners-red, Grade 1-pink, Grade 2-orange, and Grade 3-yellow.
Upper grades will be using different colors for this project and I will update with their work next week.

Surrealistic Eye Project

BCA Canada artists have been creating surrealistic eye drawing using sharpies, colored pencils, and oil pastels last week. In the beginning, students looked at human eye pictures and discussed how eyes can express our feelings without verbal language. We shared the idea of eyes being a "window to the soul".

Students looked at many surrealistic eye drawings and paintings including Belgian Surrealist painter, René Magritte's "The False Mirror".

To begin this project, students were asked to answer following questions to brainstorm ideas for their surreal eyes.
- What is important to you?
- What is your favorite place?
- What makes you feel happy?

The First Project: Self-portrait

Students in Kindergarten to Grade 5 created a self-portrait on the first day of art. They observed their face features closely looking at a mirror and tried to capture all the details. Here are some examples:
